A healthy balance in our eco-account

The eco-account is like a savings account for the environment. We pay into it by undertaking voluntary, preventative conservation work. This earns us credit that we can later use to offset any activities that have a negative ecological impact, such as construction work. We can therefore keep our books balanced, as it were, with these restoration and compensation measures for the environment.

DB Heavy Maintenance in Nuremberg has started collecting green credit with one of its initiatives. In the Tullnau district, we removed bushes and shrubs from an area 10,000 square meters in size and created sandy terrain of a type that is particularly rare nowadays, but which is the ideal habitat for endangered plants and animals – species of vetch, sand lizards and smooth snakes, for example.
